A Model That Prescribes Best Practices

At the heart of any simulation is its behavioral model, which captures what you want people to be doing better on the job. When done well, it creates a guide for users that provides a rationale for why certain behaviors are right and wrong. These best practices are ultimately what you’re trying to get your users to learn and apply.

Many e-learning projects fail because they’re constructed around faulty models. They're often not action-oriented or keyed on specific behaviors. They’re too general, or too philosophical or even too idealistic. There’s room for some of this in a model, but a good one has to have specific best practices that support it. If it doesn’t, the user has no way of knowing what they should do in a particular situation.
